Who Am I?

I’m a recently engaged, formerly-single dad who’s been raising two daughters for the last 14 years. I’m a computer developer, a lover of opera, Victorian literature, and comic books. I prefer Star Wars over Star Trek, hot chocolate over coffee, and scotch neat.

I’m not in any way famous or well known and I’ve never run any sort of charity event before. But I do believe I have some skill at origami, and I believe I can do this.

I forget exactly when it was I first discovered origami. I believe I was in elementary school and I think there may have been some activity at school where we learned some basic shapes. This, I think, is where I learned to fold a doll figure that’s been one of my favourite shapes ever since.

I’ve practiced origami on and off over the years–mostly cranes, dolls, and some flowers–and I’ve always found it to be a relaxing hobby. It focuses the mind, quiets external agitations, and leads me to a state of calm.

I think when we are healing from trauma we strive towards that same state of calm. There may be much on the way–hurt, anger, frustration and fear–but eventually we hope to reach that point of peace within ourselves. I hope in some way my work will share that.
